A concrete field weighing greater than the Eiffel Tower has been pushed below a railway line to type a brand new tunnel, in a “UK first” for engineering.

The 11,000-tonne, 155m (510ft) construction was moved into place below the East Coast Primary Line at Werrington, Peterborough, at 150cm (60in) per hour over 9 days.

The tunnel, opening on the finish of 2021, will separate freight and passenger trains on the London to Edinburgh route. It’s going to result in quicker and extra dependable providers, stated Community Rail.

The mission is a part of £1.2bn being spent to improve the road.
