4 Cape City cops in dock for allegedly assaulting man throughout lockdown-related arrest
4 law enforcement officials, who allegedly pepper-sprayed a person in Cape City in April final 12 months, will face fees of assault within the Cape City Justice of the Peace’s Courtroom on Tuesday.
The complainant was allegedly manhandled after he was accused of breaking Covid-19 lockdown rules at about 23:30 on 14 April 2020.
The Impartial Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) investigated the case.
“It’s alleged that the complainant was on his approach to park in entrance of Whole Storage Bonjour, Wooden Drive, Parklands, when police officers stopped him. This comfort store is about 350 metres from his house tackle,” IPID spokesperson Ndileka Cola mentioned.
“In accordance with the complainant, he defined to the feminine police officer that he desires to purchase himself [an] power drink on the comfort store. It is alleged that the officer’s response to the complainant was that [an energy drink] isn’t a necessary product and she or he’s going to arrest him for breaking the lockdown rules.”
